Close Unique Maantis Ceiling Light

Preview image

The ‘Maantis' is a new approach to contemporary lighting design, one day all lights will be made this way. Embracing high quality technology to maximise efficiency in an aesthetic and innovative way. Together  Richard Rogers;  the designer, and Gofreddo Reggiani , the Italian manufacturer of Reggiani SPA set themselves a challenge of designing a light what would not only be a beautiful piece of design, but deliver more functionality than any single fitting had achieved before.

The main light source is two T5 halogen lamps, wrapped in translucent polycarbonate ribs that diffuse the light, eliminate glare and maximise efficiency. Each rib has a triangular section, so that even when the light is switched off, the prisms refract daylight into a rainbow luminescence. A masterful piece of lighting artwork! The lights measure 1450mm in length, and comes with a brochure autographed by Richard Rogers himself. We have two up for auction. Bid on the other light here.

Here is what TechDigest had to say about the lights - "Put the eerie glow of a giant sea monster in your office! British architect Richard Rogers developed the Maantis lighting system based on the internal structures of incandescent deep-deep sea creatures. Even when it's turned off, its light-hungry ribs draw in stray light from the very air, causing it to emit a weak glow. The same properties minimize external light pollution, by channeling its rays precisely where needed. Also as a convenience and energy saver, its motion sensors are designed to illuminate only when someone is in the room."
