Samaritans, with the support of 17,000 volunteers, provides confidential non-judgmental emotional support, for those experiencing feelings of distress or despair, including those which could lead to suicide. Set up in 1953, the charity has responded to the communications revolution (and kept abreast of the needs of young people) by pioneering e-mail and SMS text activity in addition to its phone-based services.
The charity offers a range of special programmes in schools and workplaces. All are designed to help improve the emotional health of the country. With your support, we can maintain and develop this valuable work.
